August 27, 2017 Chapter 1 Awe and Wonder
Note to Readers: I am still in Haiti but have scheduled this to be published on Sunday, August 27. Should be able to start approving posts tomorrow night (Monday, August 28).
Greetings Fellow Pilgrims:
Several years ago I was visiting my niece at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. We were sitting in the cafeteria overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It looked something like this:
It was evening and the sun was setting. We sat in silence for a long time and then Jessica said to me, "I don't understand people who think something like this is an accident!"
Isn't that the truth!
We live in an awesome world...formed at the hands of the Master Artist!
The second and third question in the reflection questions talk about discovering God in the beauty of creation. Having just returned from trip to Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks I was amazed once again by the beauty of our country. Indeed, the heavens declare the glory of God (Psalm 19:1).
Here are a couple of pictures from Bryce (at the top) and Zion (on the bottom):
The pictures don't do them justice, but they truly are two beautiful places. What about you? What beautiful places have you seen that give glory to God, the Master Artist?
Fr. Tom
My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in Maui. There is such a variety of beautiful places to take in. The gift of the visit is one we'll probably never experience again which makes the memory of the gifts we experienced very special.
ReplyDeleteWent to Hawaii a few years ago too. Hope to go back someday.
ReplyDeleteJuan again, my first post may have not gone through.
ReplyDeleteIn this chapter, the last sentences of the second paragraph in page 4 is what I focused on. It relates to what I'm studying now with mindset and limiting beliefs.
The sentences say...
"They dare to proclaim that the universe is God's self-expression, God's speech act. That means that everything everywhere is always essentially holy, spiritual, valuable, meaningful. ALL MATTER MATTERS."
This is an intriguing thought to me because we are raised to believe there is separateness among us. We categorize every living thing into their respective bucket. Yet, in many ways we are all formed by similar chemical compounds. We come from the stars.
I have come to realized that when I am at my best, I am connected to a source of power greater than me. It is a connection by intuition rather than logic. Difficulty to explain but I know when it is there.
If only we all spent more time connecting within ourselves, life would be a lot simpler.
Great thoughts. I agree that we are at our best when we are connected with a source of power greater than ourselves. I once heard a similar thought about the God in me connecting to the God in you. That connection to the power source, the life source, the one in whose image we are created, connects us to our true selves and to others.
